About 140 take early buyout at Ford’s Claycomo plant

About 140 hourly workers accepted an early-buyout offer at Ford Motor Co.’s Kansas City Assembly Plant in Claycomo on Oct. 31, a local union leader said Tuesday.
Sixty to 70 of the union workers who accepted the offer will leave the plant Dec. 1, said Jeff Wright, president of United Auto Workers Local 249. The other workers will leave the plant gradually through early next year, he said.
The plant has about 4,200 hourly workers, including those who accepted the buyout, Wright said. As of Nov. 7, the plant had about 250 salaried workers.
In March, 112 union workers at the plant accepted an early-buyout offer.
The Claycomo plant builds the Escape, Mercury Mariner and Mazda Tribute SUVs, as well as the F-150 truck. It ranks No. 5 on the Kansas City Business Journal’s list of private-sector employers, with nearly 4,700 employees.
